Ferrymead Railway Track Maintenance Shutdown Begins

9/6/01

The Ferrymead Railway has begun a month-long shutdown to allow track maintenance to be carried out. Work began at the zero peg (Ferrymead Station) of our main line and will include work on joints, sleeper replacement, adjustment of track cant, tamping, and any other tasks required.

Our track was inspected by our new Track Supervisor and a programme of work has been drawn up. Work began on Saturday 9th June which was designated a special track day. It was programmed to continue the following day and on other designated weekends. The next running day is not scheduled until early July. There was a very good turnout of members on the first day including some we had not seen on trackwork for a long time. Around 20 sleepers were replaced and other work completed.
