    Marshall Pass
Kent made an overhead lamp mounted in the snowshed near the switch on the west end. It works by contact tabs under the structure, so is totally removable with the snowshed.

    Shawano
Gary built a cutout for the new horizontal switch panel. It will allow the switch table with track schematic, toggles and LEDs to be removable for repair and scenery to be built up next to the panel. There is now some space on the opposite side of the track for a tool shed and out buildings.

    Parlin
Glenn continued work on Benny Hill, with some help from Gerry. They added hydrocal on the cutaway face (above the fascia) and carved striata along the surface.

2 Apr 2016    Crew: Tarry, Kent, Gary, Glenn and Barry

    Shawano
Tarry worked on the scenery and got the foundation laid for the the bunk house and coal house. He also worked on the top of the cut to give it more slope.

    Pitkin Branch
Gary found a couple tight spots with the NMRA gauge on the new track, and made adjustments to the ties at the defected spots and reglued the track down with CA. Track feeders still will be required for completion.

    Parlin
Glenn worked on Benny Hill and gave him an amazing makeover outside on the driveway, with a nice layering and scalp job. The wet plaster face cover did wonders and the hill looks great.

    Staging Lighting
Kent and Barry worked on installing the new LED lighting underneath the narrow gauge staging, for night lighting the aisleways.

29 Mar 2016    Crew: Tarry, Kent, Gerry and Barry

    Shawano
Tarry worked on the foundation laid for the the section house and added a dry wash.

    Pitkin Branch
The damaged section of track connecting Parlin to the Alpine Tunnel, Nathrop, and Buena Vista via the C&S (former South Park and Pacific) has been repaired. K-27 #1456 ran restored section in both directions. Clearance past Harrison Cliff is tight but will be OK so long as crew does not lean outward. Track glued with Pliobond.

    Staging Lighting
Kent and Barry worked on installing the new LED lighting on the standard gauge staging.

24 Mar 2016    Crew: Tarry, Kent, Gerry and Barry

    Pitkin Branch
Gerry spliced two code 70 track pieces together. New track is held with just rail joiners pending trial run with locomotive and train to ensure clearance along Harrison’s Cliff. If all appears satisfactory track can be glued and spiked Wednesday evening.

    Shawano
Tarry added some "geology" to the geographicaly challenged area along the track, and incorporated some ground cover as well.

    Layout Lighting
Kent and Barry worked on the next application of LED lighting on the staging deck.

HO Staging North side with new LED lighting.

    19 Mar 2016    Chow: Gary,Gerry and Barry
19 Mar 2016    Crew: Gary and Barry

    Pitkin Branch
Gary cut out and replaced a short piece of cork roadbed and cut a piece of Micro-Engineering flextrack to replace the old damaged rails. Joiners were added on the rails to adjust the rail height to the current shinohara rails, which are on slightly thicker ties. The new flextrack will be spiked at the ends on the wooden ties and caulked down in between.

    Layout Lighting
Barry on the LED lighting for staging deck replacement of the incandescent lights and the NG staging (underneath lighting).

    General

  • Barry brought detailed sketches, required mateerials and cost estimate for the proposed club annex addition.

16 Mar 2016    Crew: Gary, Tom, Gerry and Barry

    Cleora
Tom and Gary worked on a cardstock template for the track plan and laid out the tracks. Looks like a #6 DG wye will be required on the east ladder sidings. Tom added more subroadbed pine and sanded the boards smooth. Tom made the template for the west ladder and took it to cutout on a new piece of luann. Gary needs to make a good wye template before we can accurately lay out the east ladder.

    Poncha Junction
Barry completed the LED installation from Poncha Jct to Tennessee Pass and started planning lighting for staging deck replacement of the incandescent lights and the NG staging (underneath lighting).

    Tank 7
Gerry and Barry completed the track repairs to the mainline. Gerry completed spiking and gapping the rails and Barry added new feeders.

    Narrow Gauge Roster

  • The first completed Class 2 short caboose has finally made its inaugural apperance on the layout. Tom brought out his spankin' new Carmengo & Funaro D&RGW Chort Caboose #0577. Tom used some Precision Scale end parts for the ladders. Check out the Narrow Gauge Short Caboose (Class 2) roster. This is the second caboose (#0517 Round Roof) that Tom has built and completed in as many weeks.

12 Mar 2016    Crew: Gary, Glenn, Kent, Gerry and Barry

    Operations Session
No work. See the Operations Report.

09 Mar 2016    Crew: Gary, Glenn, Gerry & Tom

    Cleora
Tom and Gary worked on the basic track layout at Cleora, and cut out some luann roadbed pieces. We put the roadbed centerline 1 1/4" offset from the fascia and 2" from the mainline. The plan is to lower the subroadbed slightly so the sidings will be below the mainlines. Tom installed the subbase (which will also be the subroadbed) to support the curved switches coming off the mainline from the end towards Barrel. We may be forced to place the standard gauge tank on the switch to the stockyards, off of the mainline due to space limitations.

    Tank 7
Gerry repaired the rails that "popped off" the trestles at Tank 7, by spiking the rails onto the bridges. Lack of gaps in the rail through the curve apparently caused the rails to pop off of the CA cementing the rails to the trestles, due to thermal expansion.

    Parlin
Glenn worked some more on the foam hill, adding more terrain features. The hill is easily removable providing total access to the track. Glenn added ravines and gouges to the hill, to make it more realistic before applying plaster cloth.

05 Mar 2016    Crew: Gary, Glenn & Barry

    Poncha Junction
Barry worked on the lighting above the Depot and Section House.

Speaking of the Depot, Hal says he is working on finishing up the roof, while recovering from some recent surgery. Unfortunately, Hal got an infection from the stitches and is slowly fighting that off, and has been unable to attend meetings. However, he is still keeping busy and anxious to see what other kits Ed Dorroh has given us. He also would like to remind Barry that he has some projects still awaiting him, including a sink installation. -I guess that means about everything!

    Parlin
Glenn finished building the big hill between Parlin and Gunnison out of several pieces of 2" sheet foam.

    General
Gary updated the narrow gauge inventory of rolling stock currently on the layout and will update the NG rosters accordingly.

  • 25 30' and 3 34' Stock Cars
  • 35 High Side Gondolas- we probably need about 50 total.
  • 14 30' Box Cars

  • 10 Flat Cars (2 with permanently attached loads). Loads are simply set on the rest loose for delivery & removal.
  • 2 Drop Bottom Gondolas
  • 1 MOW Car (Wheel & Tie) - Red Livery
