McCloud: Yards

An overview of the shop building and the upper end of the McCloud yards taken on 31 August 1957 by Jerry Lamper. The shop building was a little less than a year old when this photo was taken, and plenty of remnants of the old steam facilities are still evident...note the old turntable bridge sitting on the ground to the left of the photo and the old steam era sand house and tower still in use, with construction of the current sand tower for the diesels just getting under way.

The same shot two years later. Photo by and courtesy of Ed Barggraf.

A shot of the yard and shop building taken in August 1992 from almost the same location as the above two photos.

This photo is of the train makeup tracks that run along the east side of the shop building.  Photo is by Peter Ely and is from the Drew Toner collection.

The railroad's scale house that houses the scale aparatus used to weigh loaded freight cars. June 2003.

McCloud, CA, 5/2002. One mile east of McCloud is the company’s storage yard, known as the “Run-around” on the railroad. Seldom used equipment is generally stored here, along with a lot of empty and bad-order boxcars and loads of diatomaceous earth from Dicalite waiting to be sold. The passenger car roofs visible on the far track belong to passenger cars owned by the Great Western Railroad Museum. The Museum is in the process of moving it’s collection out of McCloud to a new home in southern Oregon, but these coaches continue to remain in storage here. Photo by Alicia Moore.

As you can tell, there are several McCloud pages. You can navigate through these pages by clicking the page names that are below.
