Layout Displays

The North Raleigh Model Railroad Club has the ability to set up an NTRAK modular layout, which is free standing, and/or a T-TRAK modular layout, which sits on banquet tables, to fit your venue's size and shape.

We do not charge for displaying a layout at your venue but a donation is greatly appreciated. As a non-profit, NRMRC relies on donations to be able to continue offering this service.

Please contact us if you are interested in having us set up an NTRAK and/or T-TRAK layout at your event.

BE RAIL SAFE

oper life 2

The North Raleigh Model Railroad Club (NRMRC) is proud of its efforts to educate the public on rail safety through our association with Be Rail Safe and through the information and links on this page. Whenever possible, NRMRC includes Be Rail Safe at our train shows.

Be Rail Safe is a North Carolina safety program designed to educate the public on railroad safety, reducing injuries and fatalities through education and outreach. It highlights that rail tracks are private property and trespassing is illegal, emphasizing that trains can take a mile or more to stop.

Key safety tips from the program include:

  • Only cross tracks at designated pedestrian or roadway crossings.

  • Never walk, run, or cycle on tracks or rights-of-way.

  • Do not cross immediately after a train passes, as a second train could be coming.

  • Trains can take a mile or more to stop, meaning collisions are rarely avoided by the train crew.

The initiative, often involved in community events like the N.C. Transportation Museum's Fire Truck Festival, collaborates with organizations such as Safe Kids NC. For more information on rail safety, visit the BeRailSafe.org Safety Tips site.

Together, we can save lives at railroad crossings and on train tracks.

BSA 3

Scouting Merit Badge

BSA 2

Scouting America offers a Railroading Merit Badge which teaches Scouts about trains, railroads, safety, and model railroading, combining hands-on activities with knowledge of the railroad industry.

The Railroading Merit Badge is designed to help Scouts understand how railroads operate, the types of trains, and the role of railroads in transportation. Scouts explore both freight and passenger rail systems, learn about railroad safety, and gain practical experience through model railroading and/or railfanning. The badge encourages Scouts to appreciate the importance of railroads in everyday life and commerce.

Earning the Railroading Merit Badge combines knowledge, observation, and hands-on activities. Scouts learn about train operations, safety, and careers while developing skills in planning, research, and model building. Completing this badge provides a comprehensive understanding of the railroad industry and its impact on society.

Please contact us to learn how we can help.
