Introduction

The North Raleigh Model Railroad Club owns several modules. Some of these modules were constructed by the club, either by an individual acting for the club, or as a club project with several members participating. Other modules were built totally by members of the club, and then donated to the club, often when the member leaves the club.

All of the modules listed here are used on a regula basis by the club for our NTRAK layouts..

Legend

All descriptions refer to looking from the front of the module.
CCW = Counter-clockwise; CW = Clockwise

Description
Swamp at front of module causes the three main tracks to curve around it. Alternate Blue leaves the Blue Track to connect at the right side. The Mountain Division track runs straight across the module.

The swamp water is numerous layers of polyurethane colored with acrylic paints. The swamp grass is sisal twine inserted while the polyurethane was wet.

The vertical scenery is Styrofoam insulation with some white breadboard. The terrain is covered with a mix of Sculptamold, PermaScene, coffee grounds (used) and Elmer's Glue.

Cariss Corner Track Plan

Description
In 1994, the club was in dire need of another corner module. Don decided to build a corner that depicted the farming area of Northwest New Jersey. As a Boy Scout, he hiked this area many times every year. When he lived in the Washington, NJ area, his next door neighbor was a dairy farmer. This way of life has pretty much disappeared with building of I-78. This area is now one sub-division after another.

Module Setup Instructions
Cariss Corner is a standard 4' corner module. The legs fold out and lock in place with luggage latches. They do not work all that well. There are no lights and no buildings that have to be put on the module. The existing building and corral are glued on.

Traxtown Ridge Track Plan

Description

October 1969 — It is a cool day in northeastern Pennsylvania's Wyoming Valley anthracite region. The autumn colors set the countryside ablaze. Winter is just around the corner and soon, snow will blanket this mountainous terrain.

Traxtown Ridge is located two miles northwest of Wilkes Barre. With large anthracite deposits discovered throughout the area in 1831, Traxtown Ridge became a bustling railroad town almost overnight. Six major railroads serve area today: Erie Lackawanna, Penn Central, Central Railroad of New Jersey, Lehigh Valley, Delaware and Hudson and the Wilkes Barre and Eastern.

Once word of the large coal deposits spread across the countryside; mining companies and the regional railroads staked their claims. They purchased the land, laid the rails and fought to gain the upper hand. Many mines and mining operations were owned by the railroads.

Located in "Old-town", Champion Air Compressor is one of the town's non-mine employers. They manufacture and service air compressors as well as provide welding, maintenance, repair and service on pumps and other machinery in their electrical and maintenance shop.

Parker Oil Company distributes diesel fuel, home heating oil and lubricants, such as hydraulic oil and motor oil to the local industrial, mining and construction companies. They usually receive two tank cars per week loaded with fuel and heating oil and one to two boxcars loaded with 55-gallon drums and boxed lubrication products.

This module represents northeastern Pennsylvania. Its name and history are fictitious, but are based on regional history. Parker Oil Company is an actual company located in Stroudsburg and the railroads named above, did service the Scranton / Wilkes Barre area of Pennsylvania.
