Grand Trunk Railway Company

The Grand Trunk Railway was amalgamated with the Canadian National Railway in 1923. Below are links to the individual histories of railway lines that were either created by or ultimately came under the control of the Grand Trunk Railway that were constructed within the Province of Ontario.


Grand Trunk Railway Lines

A. Principle GTR Main Line Routes:

1) Quebec Border through Kingston to Toronto - Pending

3) Stratford to Sarnia - Pending

B. Great Western Railway Routes (Including main line and all branch lines.)

C. GTR Branch Line and Feeder Routes:

Buffalo & Lake Huron Railway (Fort Erie to Goderich)

Canada Atlantic Railway - Includes the following railways:
1. Original Mainline (Ottawa to Quebec border near Glen Robertson)
2. Ottawa, Arnprior & Parry Sound Railway (Ottawa to Depot Harbour)
3. Central Counties Railway (Glen Robertson to Hawkesbury, Rockland to Limoges)
4. Pembroke Southern Railway (Pembroke to Golden Lake)

Cobourg & Peterborough Railway Company (Cobourg to Peterborough)

Grand Trunk, Georgian Bay & Lake Erie Railway - Includes the following railways:
1. Stratford & Huron Railway (Stratford to Harriston)
2. Georgian Bay & Wellington Railway (Palmerston to Durham)
3. Port Dover & Lake Huron Railway (Port Dover to Stratford)
4. South Norfolk Railway (Port Rowan to Simcoe)
5. Grand Trunk, Georgian Bay & Lake Erie Railway extension (Harriston to Wiarton)

Midland Railway - Includes the following railways:
1. Port Hope, Lindsay & Beaverton Railway (Port Hope through Beaverton to Midland)
2. Whitby, Port Perry & Lindsay Railway (Whitby to Lindsay)
3. Victoria Railway (Lindsay to Haliburton)
4. Grand Junction Railway (Belleville to Peterborough)
5. Belleville & North Hastings Railway (Madoc Jct. to Eldorado)
6. Toronto & Nipissing Railway (Toronto to Coboconk)
7. Lake Simcoe Junction Railway (Stouffville to Jackson's Point)
8. Toronto & Ottawa Railway

Northern Railway - Includes the following railways:
1. Ontario, Simcoe & Huron Union Railway (Toronto to Collingwood and Barrie)
2. Toronto, Simcoe & Muskoka Junction Railway (Barrie to Gravenhurst)
3. North Grey Railway (Collingwood to Meaford)
4. North Simcoe Railway (Colwell near Barrie to Penetanguishene)
5. Hamilton & Lake Erie Railway (Hamilton to Port Dover)
6. Hamilton & Northwestern Railway (Hamilton to Collingwood and Barrie)
7. Northern & Pacific Junction Railway (Gravenhurst to Nipissing)
