As rebuilt from Z1a class in 1928 - Double stack - Baker valve gear

  • Note- Tractive Effort: (C) - Compound Cycle....(S) - Simple cycle

  • *Note- Weight shown as originally built as unimproved type. Improved Y5 and Y6 classes were those equipped with booster valves (modified intercepting and reducing valve assembly) for simple operation at low speeds. These improved locomotives had approx. 25,560 lbs. ballast added to front engine frame to increase weight shown.

  • Note- Rebuilt Y5 and new Y6, Y6a, and Y6b all of modern design with following features: Cast steel bed, frame with integral cylinders, roller bearings on all engine axles as shown, Type A superheater, and feedwater heater as shown. Standard stokers also included. Baker valve gear.

  • Note- Y2 and Y2a classes had air pumps mounted on front of smokebox - With 240 lbs. steam pressure, one Franklin tender booster exerted 17,350 lbs. tractive effort, while the Bethlehem auxiliary engine exherted 18,280 lbs. t.f. with like pressure. Some tenders were equipped with one, others with two.
