(LEFT) Santa Fe 204 eases through the washracks at the Argentine Yard Shops. A BNSF transfer job switches cars then head out of the yard. Two locomotives moves about in the engine facilities. (RIGHT) BNSF 973 and others goes through the wash racks.
NS 9107 east passes Birmingham Crossing. BN transfer job goes up the Kearney Branchline up north. And also a NS transfer job goes into the autorack facilty.
(LEFT) HLCX 6515 sits on the locomotive track at the east end of the yard at Emporia, Ks. during April of 1998. In the background an eastbound is seen working in the yard and is almost ready for a lineup to leave town. (RIGHT) During April 5th, 1998 BNSF 726 pulls the westbound Roadrailer train past Saffordville, KS after waiting on some other trains. 726 is a Dash 9-44CW. The roadrailers come from Kansas City and go to Fort Worth, Texas.
A locomotive consist used by Central Kansas Railway sits on their branchline at Salina, Ks at the old Santa Fe freight house. This branchline was once a Santa Fe branch that was sold off to CKR. The locomotives are: GWR 3042 GP35 (ex-Rio Grande), SP 6619 GP35, and CKR 2243 GP7. These photos are from May 1998 by Eric Burris.
At the Union Pacific yard at Salina sits a variety of locomotives from many railroads. Since the former SP trains is the majority of the traffic here, some SP power is here as well as CNW and the Conrail units that are being leased by UP. There was some UP power further down the tracks. Salina has a neat UP depot and I'm looking at shooting more trains here. When I was at Salina in May 1998, no trains went by. Maybe I'll catch the happy hour next time. Photos by Eric Burris.
