Tops Codes

TOPS has been used by BR and its successors since the late 1960's to keep control on locomotives, multiple units, coaches and wagons together with train locations and formations. TOPS is slowly being phased out by other programs such as MARS and Genius but to this day TOPS can still provide information for the enthusiast. These pages are designed to give a brief history of TOPS and to hopefully decode all those mysterious numbers and letters used on TOPS reports. The pages still need a lot of work on them and if you can provide me with any information then please contact me at matt@railnet.free-online.co.uk or I can be faxed on 0870 063 7859.
