Wes Carr Photos - Day in North America 2004
eastbound Z-train approaching Carey

After the sunrise shots, I headed north across the Red River and into Oklahoma. I had hoped to catch shortline Hollis & Eastern operating, but they were idle that day. I headed on to Altus, and then north to the entrance to Quartz Mountain State Park, where the Quartz Mountain Flyer excursion train was about to head north on Farmrail's ex-KCM&O trackage. (Click here to see those photos.)

After spending the late morning and early afternoon hours on Farmrail, I headed back to the BNSF Red River Valley Sub to finish out the day. My next catch was this eastbound stack train, the Z LACALT1 14, photographed approaching the town of Carey at 16:02.
