Rolling Stock on the CSTPM&O

   

  There are a number of cars which have unique paint schemes. Route of the 400 became a trademark on the Omaha line, then later the CNW system. Using streamlined steam, and later converting to diesel F-series, the passenger trains boasted a 400 mile trip from Milwaukee WI to Minneapolis MN in 400 minutes. In order to achieve this average of 60 miles per hour with selective stops, the early "bullet" trains pushed the envelope on speed and safety.  

Box Cars

Omaha box car had a couple of typical paint schemes that lasted through time.  One of the more colorful was an olive green and yellow.

Another popular scheme for cars was the typical brown used by many railroads of the day.

 

Shown here is a model that uses the brown color scheme. If there is a two color model available, I have not seen it yet, although it would be a colorful addition to any roster.


Specialty Cars

Omaha had many specialty cars like cranes, Rotary snow plows, and even gas powered doodlebugs.

 Girder crane for building bridges had something that you don't think of every day. It's own tender was attached to fuel the steam engine in the crane. This combo was more than likely very common, just not photographed very much. Cranes are available through flyer for heavy duty service. The one shown could come from a
