Open Wire Transpositioning Systems - What's That?

2014-09-24 - Paul Almquist

Do you remember back in the good old days when there were lots of telegraph wires along the tracks? I sure do. I don't know what they all were for. Probably some for the telegraph itself and some for signals and switch controls. I just found web page that describes some of the issues with these wires. In particular the changing positions of wires as they run from pole to pole. It looks like a twisting effect. This article is rather long but you may want to at least skim it to get an idea of what the position changing, i.e. transpositioning, is all about.
