WEB SERVER STATUS :

All of our web servers are currently up and operational. You should be able to access them now. Our web servers had been unreachable from some segments of the web from Friday afternoon, March 28, 2003 until Wednesday morning, April 2, 2003.

Originally, the high speed internet feed used by TrainWeb was provided by CerfNet. Our company had been using CerfNet since the early 1990s, long before we even came up with the concept of TrainWeb. CerfNet costs quite a bit more than most other internet providers, but it was extremely reliable and provided the full bandwidth for which we were paying.

A few years ago, AT&T took over CerfNet. Ever since then, reliability and bandwidth have gone down hill. Because of that, we began to seek a new internet service provider more than a year ago. Several months ago, we moved our TrainWeb.ORG web server over to a new service provider: XO. We have been very satisfied with the reliability and speed of this new service.

Thus, we decided to move the remainder of TrainWeb over to an additional high speed internet feed from XO. In order to move all our web servers over from the AT&T to the XO internet feed, all our IP addresses had to be moved from AT&T to XO. AT&T would not give us a specific date and time when this would take place. All we could do is wait until a tech person at AT&T got to this task in their queue. This finally did happen on Friday, March 28, 2003.

Our new internet service provider, XO, began broadcasting our IP addresses on Friday, March 28, 2003. Unfortunately, AT&T only partially released our IP addresses. Thus, AT&T was still broadcasting incorrect addressing information to the web. Whether or not you were able to reach the websites on our web servers just depended on whether your own ISP is more closely linked to AT&T or to XO. If your ISP obtains its addressing from XO, you were able to reach us just fine. If your ISP obtains its addressing from AT&T, you were not be able to reach us for several days.

This problem should be completely resolved by now. If you still can't reach our web servers, please send e-mail to steve@trainweb.com We appologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
