Although #4483 is not able to run at this time, you can now run her in the world of "Virtual Reality." In 2001, Microsoft, released their first version of "Train Simulator©," a companion to their famous "Flight Simulator©". Out of the box, you get to choose from six routes and six different locomotives. Unfortunately, there are only two steam engines, both British. Fortunately, since the release of the game, hundreds of followers have come to embrace the program and are developing new engines everyday, which are simply uploaded into the program. Some of the new "skins" as they are called are very simple, but others are quite complex. #4483 will become one of those that are "super detailed" and be very realistic. A group of college guys from all over North America have got together to bring the I1sa back to life. The team, headed up by president Jim Shubsda from Lewiston, New York and head builder/modeler Mike Vanderhoof, have come up with some remarkable details in the recreation of the engine. Other members of the team include Tom Pierce - freight car builder, Rick Grout - cab builder (check out his work on SP&S #700 @ http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID15/945.html ), Harold Clitheroe, from Alberta, Canada, does all the sound effects and Mark Sieple runs the "paint booth" and texture shop from Cumberland, MD. Jim S. who lives the closest to the engine, supplied the motivation to get the project started in honor of his late uncle who had ridden in the locomotive in the early 50’s.
Using the processing power of high end programs like AutoCad©, 3D StudioMax©, and 3D CanvasPro©, the guys have come up with the results shown below. I have become the technical engineer supplying photos, drawings and dimensions to make the final product as true to life as possible. Each screen shot represents a upgrade from the previous and I would offer corrections and suggestions as needed. The team has worked long and hard to bring this extraordinary project to fruition, and they hope you enjoy their work. Hundreds of hours have gone into this endeavor and a look at the bottom the page will show you some in game screen shots of a "Doubleheader" I put together. Looking at the detail of the cab, its almost like being right there! The sound effects with a good set of speakers will blow you away. So pull the whistle cord and grab the throttle for some serious virtual fun!
