The Recovery of HSR #403

After it was retired in 1934, HSR #403 was purchased by Angelo DeBenedetti and moved onto what is now Regional Rd 20 just west of Tapleytown Rd, on a plot of land in front of the Paron Cheese factory. HSR #403 was turned into a summer cottage and covered with asbestos shingles and additions.

In the summer of 1982 Paron Cheese purchased the plot of land and began demolition of the old cottage, in the process revealling the streetcar. The Paron family contacted the HSR, who in turn contacted the Ontario Electrical Railway Historical Association (OERHA) who operates the Halton County Radial Railway (HCRR). Members of OERHA visited the site in July and determined that HSR #403 was salvagable, and so arrangements were made to move it to the HCRR in October. Unfortunately continuing deterioration of HSR #403 resulted in it being scrapped in 1999
