I have been fascinated by trains for almost my entire life, dating back to the early 1950s. My photographic efforts started in the mid 1970s when I began snapping the UP, BN and C&NW in central Wyoming. When I relocated to New York state in 1980 I discovered others with a similar interest, and my serious efforts date from that time. Throughout the 1980s and early 90s I traveled throughout the country in search of rail action. In 1997 I moved again, this time to western Oregon. I was much taken with the beauty and action of the SP's rugged crossing of the Cascade Mountains, and acquired the "Cascade Bruce" nickname from the local fans.

My philosophy of train photography is simple - I like to take pictures of nice scenes, that just happen to include a train. There are many fine rail photographers whose work has inspired me, especially Richard Steinheimer and O. Winston Link. I also enjoy riding, and travel by rail whenever time and circumstances permit. Rail history fascinates me, and I have an extensive library of rail related titles.
