On 'deep tube' stocks trains are equipped with a radio alarm, which, should the driver release the CTBC and fail to acknowledge a warning by depressing the CTBC, will send an automatic warning to the Line Controller to alert him that the driver may, possibly, have collapsed or be incapacitated in some other way. In the event of this system being defective a second person must ride in the cab.
