ACTION ACCESSORIES & ACTION CARS FROM AMERICAN FLYER

AC Gilbert and Lionel were leaders in the development of action accessories in the mid 20th century. These accessories helped young adults develop ingenuity and basic mechanical and wiring skills that they benefit from today. The smaller scales that have the largest market share do so only by requirements in space and railroad operations. S gauge trains have the unique advantage of being able to actually load and unload the rolling stock by remote action as well as off the shelf hardware allowing hands-off two train operation. Moving accessories were also available as well to enhance the feeling of the layout being alive with action. Shown below are some of the accessories available in the 50's and 60's and more are being reproduced and introduced each year by Lionel and MTH to help bring your layout to life. Colors of accessories sometimes varied as they decided what was market friendly which sometimes drives collectors a little bit confused.
